Marching Along to A Different Drum

Well, taking almost a month to post new content is about par for the course lately (not that I’m keeping track or anything).

Here I am, sitting here on the evening of March 1, 2021, adding yet another entry to my blog. Many things are swirling through my head tonight, so I hope you will forgive me a little meandering.

Where we you a year ago? You know, a couple of weeks before COVID-19 began shuttering in the world as we knew it? Were you eagerly awaiting the start of March Madness (the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournaments, not the shutdown)?

Looking forward to getting a tax refund perhaps? Starting a new job? Whatever it was, I’m going to guess it didn’t have much to do with what you spent most of the rest of the year doing.

What was I doing? Honestly, I don’t rightly remember. Nothing specifically at least. My wife and I were sort of planning our yearly beach get away, though we hadn’t exactly pinpointed a date yet. Spring break was approaching for our two younger daughters, and our oldest had very recently started a new job (or was about to start, like I said, I don’t remember very clearly).

One thing I wasn’t doing? I wasn’t planning on writing a book. Fast forward two weeks, and suddenly I was planning on doing just that.

I’ve gone on at length concerning the inspiration for writing Eyes in the Dark. The pandemic, and its shuttering of many normal, day to day activities, allowed me time to write, thereby enabling me to hammer out an entire manuscript in just two months.

But the remaining 10 months since then have been a rollercoaster ride. I think that’s part of the reason I have so much trouble thinking back to specifically what was going on last year at this time. In that spirit, I’m going to put some little notes about what is happening, today, so that next year I can look back and see just what was going on.

#1 Eyes in the Dark is still seeking representation. This is almost a double note, as even once I had written my book, my first thought hadn’t been “Let’s go get this sucker traditionally published!”. The fact that several persons who could make this happen are going over my manuscript at this moment is quite mind blowing.

#2 I’m writing a new book, well a few actually. I’ve got 3 ‘real’ Work(s) In Progress currently, though only my fantasy novel is getting proper attention. Except that…

#3 I wrote a short story in February with the intent of submitting it for consideration to be included in a Sci-Fi anthology book that will be… ahem… Traditionally Published by a small independent press. I’m currently editing this short, which is nearly the same process as writing a normal novel, just smaller (dumb joke I know, but if the shoe fits).

#4 Vaccines exist for COVID now, though my family will be far down the line to get them here in South Carolina. But we are all still wearing masks, and being responsible and what not, so that’s good.

#5 On the TV/Movie front, I’ve very much enjoyed Wandavision which is a bit surprising because I’m not that big of a Marvel Cinematic Universe fan. To that end, I’m looking forward to the Snyder Cut of Justice League even if it isn’t that great, I’m still thinking it will be worth it to see a better representation of the original intent of the film.

#6 Finally, on the gaming front. I’m playing a lot of Hearthstone, as well as the currently ultra hot Valhiem which is technically in early access currently.

Well, that should be enough for tonight. I hope you and your family and friends are doing well. Until we read again, take care all.
